The hassle of soggy and illegible paperwork has plagued outdoor professionals for decades. Jerry Darling developed "Rite in the Rain" paper to address that problem for the Pacific Northwest logging industry in the 1920's and our product has been evolving ever since.Jerry has since passed away but his vision has expanded worldwide. Still made in Tacoma, Washington, "Rite in the Rain" is used around the globe in situations ranging from desert warfare to rainforest insect research. The motto "Outdoor writing products for outdoor writing people" says it all.Our R&D department is continuously developing products for new applications and we welcome your input.
In 1952, Dick Kelty, a carpenter, builder, and avid outdoorsman, started making backpacks for his friends in the Sierra Club for 24 bucks a pop. His friends were grateful. Soon, Kelty and his friends were exploring the Sierra Nevada with heavy loads, no shoulder pain, going farther, longer, and happier into the wilderness than ever before. Kelty started as a company making it easier for friends to enjoy the wilderness, and that's what they still do.
