Necessity combined with frustration truly were the mothers of invention for Mountainsmith. Back in the 1970s, Patrick Smith, an avid outdoorsman, was (and still is) spending 150 days or more a year in the field. Frankly, he felt that the packs available then weren't cutting it. He figured that there had to be a better way to carry gear and thus, Mountainsmith was born. Since then, they've grown into a company with a full line of high quality, highly functional outdoor products.
